Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

reasonably funny, although not terrific. good to watch with a beer in hand for musical biopic fans. Jenna Fischer is extremely good!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

completely adorable and hilarious, in the fine tradition of The 40-Year-Old Virgin. also, free wang! the last act suddenly got a bit forced, but enough goodwill has been built up by then that you don’t begrudge it some unnecessary schmaltz.

George Clooney is a terrible, terrible director who fumbled a clearly tight, snappy script. There is something very wrong with Renee Zellweger’s face. John Krasinski is dreamy, and Stephen Root steals so many scenes he should be arrested. frequently and unforgivably period INaccurate. last and probably least, this movie suffered horribly, pinned beneath the bloated Randy Newman score that he stole from “The Sting” (where it wasn’t much better).

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

a lot like Clerks 2 in that it was much less offensive and with more of a plot than the first, and turned out to be really rather sweet – this was equal parts disappointing and nice. NPH continues to steal the show and fill your heart with love, and Rob Corddry makes my skin crawl; he’s a little too good, i kind of hate watching him.

i don’t know why the reviews aren’t better – i thought this was a really entertaining, fun little movie. it’s simple, all the actors are terrific and sympathetic, and i liked the effects.

Tropic Thunder

actually pretty damn funny! not amazing, a bit rough in spots, but definitely worth seeing, especially with beer in hand. oh, Tom Cruise, how you fascinate and repulse me.

Mamma Mia!

good fun, but all over the place and kind of a mess. all the old people are adorable but sing like drunken donkeys. the old people are CLEARLY having the best time ever, which does eventually become infectious. the 2 kids have stellar voices when they’re allowed to sing, briefly. there’s a music video at the end that completely makes the movie. also? if Meryl Streep’s daughter is supposed to be 20, that would mean she had her at about 38. i’m just sayin’, maybe they should have considered the math when casting.

kind of lame and a bit slow, but both Seth Rogen and James Franco are so fucking ADORABLE that the whole thing just works.

The Waterboy

i am really hit or miss with Adam Sandler, but this one fucking well HIT. hi-lar-ious. Kathy Bates and Henry Winkler rock my world.

i was REEEEAAALLY into this movie as a tween. probably helps that i identified with Ally Sheedy after seeing The Breakfast Club, and i was in an Asimov robot phase back in the day. i kind of don’t want to watch it again just in case my rosy memory gets tarnished.
