I Am Legend

first 3/4 of it are terrific (although sad), and the awkward, lame ending nearly derails it. some of the CGI is sub-par, but very minor compared to the post-apocalyptic glory of the rest. disappointing; a taste of honey and all that.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

VERY, VERY GORY – Burton has obviously been studying his anatomy texts. great singing, gorgeous Burton settings and costumes, and condenses the stage show rather nicely. . i consider a movie a success when Alan Rickman is the weakest link. and GREAT job, Borat! high-fiiive!

hilarious, is what it is!!

Better Off Dead

very densely packed with bizarre hilarity – you really get your Cusack’s worth of strangeness. Extremely quotable (and I do).

Cloverfield

pretty good, surprisingly. the CG Scary Thing(tm) wasn’t particularly believable, but i haven’t yet seen one that is, and i don’t think i could point to a better one. not much plot, but a movie like this doesn’t need one.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor

Interesting and illuminating for BSG fans, but weighed down by Michelle Forbes wooden, shallow, unsympathetic performance as Admiral Caine. Unfortunately, almost 50% of the movie is about her. The other half is tremendous, though!

American Gangster

well-done, with great performances all around, frankly, not absorbing enough to justify the long run-time. Would have made a killer HBO mini-series.

The Darjeeling Limited

you would have to already be a fan of Wes Anderson movies, but i like them, so i liked this.
could have been woven more tightly, but whatever. terrific music, and my favorite Angelica Huston performance evah!

Feel-Good Romp, not so much.

Irina Palm

cute premise, and some good performances, but incongruous music, poor pacing, and an awkward narrative made it just “okay” for me.
